I have recently purchased the OGX collagen shampoo and conditioner following your update about the product. I have to be honest so far it’s the best I have used in a long time. I have always used expensive haircare products and do not get the same results as the OGX
My hair looks so healthy and shiny. I read up on your customer review regarding OGX products and appreciated the reply now leaving me happy to continue using this product. Many thanks for your recommendations .

Many thanks for all the great work Yuka! I love Yuka! Please, can you also include products available in France/Europe in your tests and recommendations? Thank you

Hi Caroline! Thank you for your comment. The recommendations you see in the app follow the country settings of your phone, while the Top Products lists on the website follow the page’s language. If you want to see the French top products, you can switch the website language to French at the bottom of the Top Products page. I hope this helps!

I have used the eco warrior soap bar shampoo for 2 years and love it. Just bought one for a friend and she loves it too.
Suits all types of hair, mine is curly (permed) and my friends is fine and straight. Leaves the hair super shiny

The OGX shampoo is part of a class action lawsuit, claiming it contains DMDM hydantoin, a formaldehyde-releasing preservative that when mixed with water becomes a known human carcinogen. Did you come across this in your research? I’ve been watching so many YouTube videos to learn more about good versus toxic products and just started searching for an App to use to scan food items when I saw your shampoo article. I had just watched the toxic shampoo video last week – I also think Head & Shoulders was part of a lawsuit. Anyway, I’d be curious about your findings.

    1. Ileana from Yuka

Hi Holly, thanks for sharing this!

The lawsuits you’ve seen around OGX, Head & Shoulders and similar shampoos concern the U.S. versions of those products. Cosmetic regulations in the United States are much looser, so ingredients like DMDM hydantoin, a formaldehyde-releasing preservative, may appear there.

The formulas we evaluate in this article are the European/UK versions, which often differ and may not contain the same preservatives. This explains the contrast between what you see in U.S. class actions and the ingredient lists we reviewed for the EU market.

I hope this settles your concerns and if you have any more questions, please don’t hesitate to email us at team@yuka.io.

Confused. Your list Bare Pure Clean Head & Shoulders here as excellent. But, when I scan mine with your Yuka app it says; Bad 20/100. Why this discrepancy?

    1. Ileana from Yuka

Hi Shirley, thanks so much for your question!

This Top 10 list is specifically for our UK users. The American version of Bare Pure Clean contains zinc pyrithione, a high-risk ingredient used for dandruff control.

However, the UK and EU versions do not contain this ingredient. Zinc pyrithione has been banned in cosmetic products by the European Commission, and the UK has aligned with this decision through its own cosmetics regulation, which is why the formulation differs between markets.

That said, older stock or non-compliant imports can sometimes still appear, so we always recommend double-checking the label alongside Yuka ☺️

Faith in nature seem to have changed their formulation and have ammonium lauryl sulfate in most if not all of their shampoo now – is the one listed genuinely an outlier or is this an error – that ingredient is ranked as a moderate risk in the app

Thank you some really useful info on the different shampoos listed.
I just have a query as someone who is allergic to fragrance as well as some of the other compounds (most of the shampoos listed contain fragrance). Most of the substances listed in the product info of each of the listed shampoos however are classed as ‘medium risk’ as could be an irritant. Fragrance is classed as ‘low risk’ yet there are quite a few people who are allergic to fragrance.
Are there any recommended shampoos that are also fragrance free? – many thanks

      Hi Saida,
      Thanks for your comment!
Yuka rates products only by the health risks of their ingredients, not by effectiveness or long-term performance like hair breakage. That being said, your feedback is really helpful, and we will look into how user experiences could be better integrated in the future.

Hi Paula, thank you for sharing your thoughts! At the moment, Yuka does not include cruelty-free criteria in our product ratings. We focus exclusively on health and ingredient risks. That said, we are actively exploring how to integrate cruelty-free information in a future version of the app.

In the meantime, you can look for these labels on packaging:

      • Leaping Bunny – The strictest cruelty-free standard internationally
      • PETA Beauty Without Bunnies – Cruelty-free, sometimes vegan too
      • Choose Cruelty-Free (CCF) – Australian certification
      • Cruelty-Free International – Uses the Leaping Bunny symbol
      • Vegan Society – Ensures no animal-derived ingredients

      I hope this helps!
